Social and environmental impact survey


The assessment was carried out in four plantation Groups and adjacent villages. Collectively about 3000 residence and non residence employees are working in four plantation groups. All the plantation groups are surrounded by villages.

Social Impact Assessment II

Lalan Rubbers (Pvt) Ltd is very much concerned about the rights of local community as well as the estate workers. Therefore, in year 2011/2012 The company decided to conduct an assessment to identify legal or customary use rights, existing within the estates, of plantation workers and villagers who live adjacent to our estates. The responses and outcome of the survey was a positive one signifying our socially responsible plantation management.

SOCIAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT 2021

Prof. Upul Subasinghe of University of Sri Jayewardenepura has conducted the social impact assessment in all 15 estates managed by Lalan Rubbers Pvt Ltd. Total sample consist of workers (300), resident non worker (60), non-resident non workers (120) and community leaders (45). Main objective of this assessment was

  1. Assessment of the impacts of the LAD estate management activities to workers and the community.
  2. Compare the findings of the present assessment with relevant findings of the previous assessment conducted on the same in 2015/16 period.
  3. Identification of the causes of the negative impacts and to produce recommendations to improve such impacts

IMPACT ASSESSMENT ON SOIL AND WATER 2021

The overall aim of the project was based on the assessment of impacts of current agricultural and management practices on water and soil environment in Lalan Agri Division in compliance with FSC principles.

  • Identification of current management plan and best practices
  • Identification of sampling locations for soil and water representing land use types including HCVs
  •   Collection of soil and water samples and laboratory analysis of chemical properties
  • Building up soil erosion hazard map using InVEST-SDR model to estimate the soil loss from the area to develop monitoring mechanisms and management plan
  • Assessment of short term, midterm and long term impacts on water and soil of the land use patterns in Lalan Agri Division
  • Identification and evaluation of the criticalness of natural springs and watershed sustainability of the river basin which are identified as High Conservation Values.
  • Develop field level indicators and monitoring mechanisms
  • Dissemination of knowledge to the relevant stakeholders
