People live in the estates and neighbouring communities are either Sinhala or Tamil. Buddhism and Hindu are the two main religions of the people. Most of the workers of the plantation live in the plantations with their families and most of them are Tamils. Comparatively, number of female workers is higher than number of male workers.
The Lalan Agri Division the main employer of the local communities with over 2,500 employees throughout the five Groups. Each estate is surrounded by local communities who either work with the group or their own cultivated lands.
The company is providing free medical and welfare facilities to the entire workforce. Further training is provided with internal as well as external resource persons. The concept and the benefits available to workforce have been explained at each training programme.
